This posting is for a Full Time Temporary opportunity for approximately 18 months. This temporary assignment may be extended or become permanent.

This position is based in Coquitlam. The successful candidate will be required to work from the office as needed.

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre (Maples), located at their new site of həy̓χʷət kʷθə šxʷhəliʔ leləm (Healing Spirit House) provides specialized community programs as well as live-in treatment services (serving the entire province). Through its programs and services, the Maples supports communities in caring for and treating young people aged 12 to 17 with significant mental health and behavioural difficulties. Maples programs include comprehensive care plan services, care plan consultant services, outreach services, respite services and live-in services wherein a young person due to the severity of their challenges, may stay on-site at həy̓χʷət kʷθə šxʷhəliʔ leləm Healing Spirit House in Coquitlam while attending the programs. Services are culturally safe and provided to Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth, families, caregivers and communities.

The Maples is also one of the resources designated as a mental health facility in the province for the detention and treatment of youth found Unfit to Stand Trial or Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder under the Criminal Code of Canada and is the only facility providing longer term care and treatment to youth for this purpose.

This position works under the direct clinical supervision of the Program Coordinator and functions in the role of a group facilitator and group facilitator trainer, as well as providing direct supervision to facilitators-in-training for the Connect Attachment Programs©. You will also design and deliver community education and training events; develop, organize and implement community development initiatives; and participate in on-going program development and evaluation. 

This position provides clinical consultation to multiple community partners around developing and maintaining Maples initiatives including attachment-based caregiver groups; articulates complex conceptual models of care and treatment to multiple groups of diverse clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

•    Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Social Work, Psychology (Clinical or Counselling), Child and Youth Care, or equivalent disciplines (e.g. Criminology).

  • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). Confirmation for equivalency for your degree is required for you to be considered.

•    Certified to deliver Connect Attachment Programs© modalities, OR able to be certified and complete 3 groups within 6 months.  Training and support will be provided.
•    Experience in facilitating therapeutic groups.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
•    Experience in supervision of Connect Attachment Programs (including Attachment Parent Groups).
•    Experience in Training Connect Attachment Programs (including Attachment Parent Groups).
•    Experience in supervision of therapeutic group leaders.
•    Experience in training others in clinical concepts and principles.
