Recent Published Research Explores Attachment in the Mexican Population
Research evaluating sociocultural factors in the development of attachment styles in the Mexican population has been published in a recent issue of Revista Internacional de Psicologia y Educacion (Vol. 23, No. 2)! This issue explores emerging psychological and pedagogical research of emerging frameworks related to human development, education, and therapeutic interventions.
The study sought to understand the aspects of Mexican culture that influence different attachment and parenting styles in the Mexican population. It was found that within Mexican culture, there may be a leniency towards authoritative and permissive parenting styles, and that gender stereotypes could influence children’s first relationships, including who takes on the role of attachment figure. It was also observed that the most prevalent attachment styles within this population were avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized.
